Help our kids help themselves

One night out with your friends = one kid’s education cost for a month (SLR 1500/approx £9/US$13). Be a “Couch Potato” for one night, and change the future of one child forever.

Project ‘Help Our Kids Help Themselves’, is a Sponsorship Fund for children doubly affected by both the three decade long war in our country and poverty. As most, if not all these children are currently minors, and cannot access a bank account directly, we have created a Common Fund, essentially comprising of small donations made by family and friends. On our monthly visits to Kilinochchi, we, in consultation with the children and their families, make a monthly appraisal of each child’s educational and nutritional needs, and thereafter make arrangements to provide for them accordingly.

We work closely with partners on the ground, e.g. school Principal and priest from the area, and also have a STITCH member who works closely with the community, who appraises the needs and gives us regular feedback on the progress of the children. We’ve also got a volunteer accountant amongst us, who’s in charge of handling the finances and administering the funds accordingly. The entire project is volunteer-driven and managed, therefore the cost incurred will only be the expenses for administering and monitoring of this initiative, and will not involve salary payments or any personnel costs.

All sponsors will receive a half-yearly and end of year report with updates on the child’s welfare and progress at school. Direct correspondence with the child is encouraged, and can be facilitated via Stitch.

We at Stitch, are a group of youth volunteers who have made a pledge to change, both ourselves, and the world around us. You can help us fulfill that pledge by joining us in creating this long overdue change in the world we live in. You can help us give these kids a chance to make their hopes and dreams a reality, today.
